I have always loved the glow of candles in my home, but I was always disappointed with the quality of candles most stores offer. Most people don’t realize that most commercially produced candles are made of paraffin, which is a byproduct at a petroleum refinery. Even most candles labelled “soy” and “beeswax” contain some paraffin. Chemicals are added to paraffin to make it opaque, hold color, hold fragrance, and to harden the wax. These chemicals are ultimately released into your home environment. I care about the environment, particularly the one my family breathes in every day. So I bought some raw beeswax from a beekeeper and started making my own candles. After much research and testing, I am thrilled with the result. Not only is raw beeswax a beautiful amber color and fragranced by honey and flower nectar, it actually cleans the air. It has a high melt point that results in a brighter flame and warm honey glow.

 

I also use pure soybean wax with cotton wicks. Soy is a very clean burning wax. It produces a beautiful, naturally creamy white candle. Soy wax is produced right here in the United States, and using it supports American farmers, not petroleum companies. Selling these candles is my small contribution to creating a healthier environment.

 

Our candles are hand poured in our shop at a historical Cider Mill in the center of Sterling, MA. The antique atmosphere is the perfect backdrop for our homey candles.
